Confidential Marriage License
What
is a confidential marriage license, are they just as legal
as a regular California marriage license, and how do you get
one?
In Los Angeles County a small number of
notary publics are authorized by the County Clerk's Office
to assist with the issuance of marriage licenses. Where most
marriage licenses issued by the County of Los Angeles are
public record and require witnesses, confidential marriage
licenses are not public record and do not require witnesses.
Confidential Marriage Licenses are just as
legally binding as a regular California / Los Angeles County
marriage license.
I am authorized, as a Notary, by Los Angeles County, to issue
Confidential Marriage Licenses to couples who
wish to eliminate the inconvenience of travel time to one of the four county
clerk's offices plus a three hour average wait in line to obtain a Confidential
Marriage License.
All persons who apply for any marriage
license must have valid, unexpired state-issued ID or a
passport. There are a few additional requirements that must
be met in order to qualify for a confidential license:
Both of the people getting married must be
18
The marriage must take place within Los Angeles County
If you are divorced, proof of dissolution must be provided
for any marriage that ended within the previous two years.
Any U.S. state's driver's license or ID card is acceptable,
